Nes Bear is a qualified Level 3 Forest School Practitioner, Primary School Teacher with QTS, BA(Hons) Youth and Community Work, John Muir Award Leader, First Aider and has worked in a variety of settings with children and young people since 1999.
Growing up on a sprawling Northern council estate Nes spent much of her childhood hunting out green spaces, no matter how tiny or filled with old mattresses and “No Ball Games” signs, to explore and ignite her imagination. Nes has always linked trees and patches of nature with peace, fun, adventure and a sense of belonging. Nes has experience of running forest school sessions in huge, beautiful forests as well as sparse concrete wastelands making the most of whatever is there, as she did as a child, to create exciting and inspiring learning adventures.
Much of Nes’s work has involved working with children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and with behavioural difficulties, particularly when working as a support worker and at a PRU. Nes has also worked with children with a variety of additional needs, ranging from speech and language issues to autism and PMLD, ensuring their inclusion. Nes believes that forest school is the ideal setting to help to engage and inspire children, young people and adults to develop both social and academic abilities.
With experience of teaching throughout mainstream primary education as well as in EYFS, primary, secondary and post-16 special schools, Nes has developed a diverse set of outdoor lessons to cover core and foundation curriculum subjects with great success.
Before becoming a primary school teacher, Nes worked for many years in Environmental Education: planning and delivering quality sessions in primary and secondary schools and special schools; setting up Eco-Schools, Bike to School and Gardening Clubs; as well as giving consultations to head teachers and class teachers on how to integrate outdoor learning into everyday planning. Nes offers similar consultation for schools through Bear FS, and with the new science curriculum including so much scope for outdoor learning and investigation, this kind of CPD could be invaluable.
Nes’s love for learning and passion to promote creative and experiential learning makes Bear Forest School a fantastic experience for all children.
Nes is also a yoga and mindfulness teacher and likes to incorporate these teachings with her sessions, encouraging participants to take some mindful moments to appreciate their surroundings and how they are feeling, helping to develop connection with themselves, the environment and others.
Nes has completed safeguarding and first aid training and has insurance and relevant skills and qualifications to make your forest school experience a safe and enjoyable one.
Nes is a member of Forest School Wales, The Forest School Association and Learning Through Landscapes.
Nes is Enhanced DBS Checked, First Aid Qualified, Fully Risk Assessed, Qualified and Insured (Copies of our insurance certificates are available on request. Please contact us.)
“Ms Bear made [my daughter] the child she is today. She entered Year 5 lacking confidence and skills and exited with a new found love of learning that has seen her continue to go from strength to strength in Year 6. I cannot rate Miss Bear as a teacher and individual highly enough. She is exceptional within her field, and has a true passion for teaching children correctly”
“Nes’s manners and consistent praise of good work and behaviour have enabled her to develop excellent relationships with the children”
“Nes exudes a love of learning that is an excellent role model for children”
“Lots of opportunities were given for the children to reflect on their progress through self and peer assessment. Nes uses a variety of strategies to enable the children to show their achievements”
“Positive relationships are clear and you have a consistent approach to managing behaviour”
